Letters Can Have a Huge Impact

Letters can have a huge impact in the life of a sponsored child.  I asked Compassion’s Moody Scholars if they received letters from their sponsors, and if so, how did it impact their lives?  This is what they said:

Yeah, I received letters from my sponsors. That was part of the work of
God in my life helping me to believe that I am normal; I understood that
I am created in the image of God because of my sponsors’ commitment to
make a difference. 

They used to write, “Tony, we are proud of you…” and that made me use
the opportunities to serve and develop myself given by Compassion. 

Every time they wrote that, they were encouraging me to continue serving
the Lord.

In my testimony, I share the impact of the letters from my Compassion
sponsor, what they have done in me. 

My sponsor told me that I am precious, I am beautiful, that they love me
and that they are so proud of me. No one ever told me that when I was
growing up. 

People told me that I was ugly and that I would become nothing but a
drug abuser and thief just like my father. But my sponsor’s kind words
touched the very depths of my heart and soul. 

God used my sponsor’s words for healing and restoring the broken self
image and self-worth that I had. God is really good.

She released me from poverty…Heather came through and wrote to me,
and I remember her letters because growing up, her letters were my most
precious asset.  She wrote and I read those letters over and over again
because she said, ‘Richmond, I love you.  Richmond, I am praying for
you.  Richmond, the children [of my Sunday School Class] send their love…
