Active Volcano

I shared recently about our trip to Ecuador to visit our sponsored kids, Maria and Anais.  We also spent a few days sight-seeing, so I’ll be sharing about Ecuador for the next couple of weeks.

We stayed at the “La Cartuja” hotel in Quito, and it was great.  The staff was wonderful and were very helpful on several occasions.

Since we had a couple of free days we rented a car to go out into the country.  The first day we headed towards Quilotoa lake, southwest of Quito.  It would take us right past the Cotopaxi Volcano, which had become active again in August for the first time in 70 years.  It is still active to this day and is a big concern for all the people in the region.  We weren’t able to get any good photos of it because the whole region was full of smoke and ash.

We stopped at this excellent restaurant near the volcano.

They were grilling the meat out front.

The soup was delicious.

We bought a couple of mixed grill platters and they were also really good.

These adorable girls were sitting near the fireplace and, with permission from their parents, posed for a few photos.  Aren’t they cute?
