I’m returning to the photos of our trip to Amsterdam in 2015.  Of course, no trip to Holland is really complete without a tour of the windmills.  We went by train to an area called Zaanse Schans, and rented bikes there when we arrived, because there is a bit of a ride through the village and along the water before you arrive at the windmills.  It was great fun, as you can see in the photos below.

We saw this scene in front of a house on the way by; lots of wooden shoes.

This is quite the historic area and these windmills have been preserved for us to enjoy today.  It certainly was beautiful to see.  This is how it looked in the past when there were even more windmills than what we saw here.  If you are curious about the purpose of windmills, click here.
