Love My Quilting Friends!

Today I’m sharing some portraits that were taken of various friends at Ucross Quilt Retreat.  Most of these were taken by my friend, Vikki, and I’m grateful she shared these great pics with us!  Of course, there were many more friends than those represented here.  Quilting friends are wonderful!

Woodland Friends

Today I’m sharing more of the quilts that were seen at Quilt Retreat.  I love this pair of quilts made together by friends; they were very happy and relieved to finally have completed these detailed woodland friends, but they turned out beautiful.

Most people heave a big sigh of accomplishment when a tedious project is completed, such as this beautiful hand appliqué quilt.

The small ones can take a while to complete, too, sometimes.

But these notion bags were completed in one morning at retreat by two Cathys (or should I say Cathy and Kathy).  It’s always great to have a friend to teach you how to make something fun.

Poodle Skirt

Our quilt retreat has numerous show and share moments, and this year’s weekend featured a poodle skirt, of all things, by my friend, Margaret.  She was preparing for a fun jitterbug moment at her church with friends!

There were lots of beautiful quilt projects in the works, and many of them were completed at retreat.

Glorious Bags

One of the things I noticed at the annual quilt retreat was all the bags being used to carry or hold all our stuff.  Colorful, beautiful bags!  Some were purchased, but most of them were handmaid.  Here’s a small sampling of all the bags, some of which were being made at the time.  You will note an occasional bag within a bag, too!

Oh, all the glorious bags!

The Ranch

The historic Ranch at Ucross is a wonderful place for us to stay during our annual quilt retreat.  This is the Big Red Barn, which has a wonderful, spacious second floor where we can spread out to sew.

It could hardly be in a more beautiful setting than this, with the Big Horn Mountains in view.

Every day we go for walks to the end of the lane and back, weather permitting.

The facilities for staying overnight are wonderful.  This year, my friends and I were able to stay in the old ranch house itself.

But the other rooms are also very special, and the meals are great!

This ranch would normally be filled up with busloads of tourists in the summer or hunters in the fall, so we’re very grateful to be able to use it in the winter, when they normally wouldn’t be taking in guests.  A real blessing for us!

Ucross 2020

The latest quilt retreat at Ucross was great again.  I love getting together with friends at the Big Red Barn.  Take a look at some of the moments across a four-day weekend in January:

Here are friends working together to solve a problem with a sewing machine.

There’s always plenty to talk and laugh about.

Cathy was putting out small projects, one after another.  We all celebrated each time another was finished!  There was even a gong to announce to the whole group when a project was complete!

Take a look at some of the beautiful items being created that day.

I was working on birds like this, too, but this one was sewn by a friend.

Western themes are really popular in our region.

There were lots of varied fabrics being used, though.

Fun!  I love my quilting friends!

Row Quilts

Show and Share at the Ucross Quilt Retreat was spectacular again this year.  So much talent!  This row quilt was completed by several friends combining their time and skills.

This is another row quilt completed by the same group of friends.  It’s called “Just Horses.”

And now for yet a third one from this group of friends.  I need to get in on one of these projects sometime!

Beautiful Views

The Ucross Quilt Retreat had some beautiful days again this year.  Here are a few to show you  how pretty the area is.

The friendship is great too!  Here’s another game of Left Right Center, with fat quarters as the prize!
